Travel Jabs
It is important that you make an appointment to see our practice nurse as soon as you have booked your holiday, to find out what immunisations, if any you will need. She will also advise you on protection against malaria and any other vaccinations you might need. (Please note anti-malarial treatment is only available on a private prescription).
Our online travel advice service, run by our practice nurses, allows you to send us details of your travel itinerary at your own convenience and receive personally tailored advice about immunisations and malaria risk according to your destination and our records of what jabs you may have had in the past.
For travel within the European Union.
Fill in an E111 form (in the back of "Health Advice for Travellers") from the post office and get it signed by them. This enables you to get the same benefits as other European Union Citizens if you need medical help in the EU.
When you return
If you become unwell after your trip remember to tell us
that you have been abroad. Malaria can develop up to a year
after you become infected despite taking all possible precautions
to protect yourself while abroad.
Read carefully "Health Advice for Travellers" which
is available free from Post Offices, and is also available
on the web at www.doh.gov.uk/traveladvice Remember that even
if you are fully immunised for the destination you are visiting
you need to know about other precautions you should take
such as prevention of malaria, hepatitis and tummy bugs.
