Medical Students

Two 3rd year medical students on their GP attachment from Queen Mary's examining our retired senior partner Mavis Taylor.
Medical students checking a patient's blood pressure.

The surgery is linked in a teaching capacity for medical students with Southend General Hospital and Queen Marys and Smithfield (the amalgamated London Hospital Medical College and St Bartholomew's).Students are attached to the surgery and depending which year they are in will either spend one morning a week for 8 weeks (3rd year students) or in the case of 4th year students a single student will be attached to the surgery for 2 to 8 weeks. We also take students from Kings College London during their final year rotation.

Students are usually attached to the surgery once or twice a year. Dr Siddique is the GP tutor and along with the other surgery staff members will teach the students both examination and history taking skills. The aim of this rotation is to allow medical students to get a feel for general practice and its diversity at an early stage in their training.

Patients attending the surgery while students are present will be advised of this when they attend. If they do not want a student present during the consultation they can ask for the student(s) to be excused. If you would like more information about the teaching programme then please contact Dr Siddique.
